Tommy Fleetwood and Wife Clare Address Their 22-Year Age Difference

As the 2025 Open Championship approaches, professional golfer Tommy Fleetwood prepares to compete at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. The venue previously hosted the 2019 Open Championship, where Shane Lowry secured his first major title with a six-shot victory over Fleetwood.

Fleetwood, who has yet to win a major championship, has recorded three top-10 finishes at the Open Championship and remains a consistent contender at golf’s premier events.

With the tournament taking place near his home country, attention has turned to Fleetwood’s personal life, particularly his marriage to Clare Craig. The couple has a 22-year age gap, which has occasionally drawn public commentary.

Clare Craig recalled their initial meeting: “We’ve got a 23-year age difference. Of course, I turned him down. I was like, ‘Don’t be stupid.'”

The pair first encountered each other in 2015 when Craig was pursuing Fleetwood professionally as his potential manager. Their relationship developed from frequent travel encounters.

“We were always on similar flights to or from Manchester airport, sat next to each other for hours, so we became friends,” Fleetwood explained to The Times. “We spent more and more time together and it just so happens we fell in love.”

When asked about the timeline of their romantic development, Fleetwood said: “Not long, just months. We already had such a strong connection and the extra time spent together just tipped us over the edge.”

Initially, the couple intended to maintain professional boundaries between their business and personal relationships. However, their working partnership proved too effective to abandon.

“We planned to keep our life and our work separate, for me to find another agent. But it became more apparent I wasn’t going to find anybody I’d trust as much because, after all, Clare is a very, very, very good agent by trade; it wasn’t like she was my wife just helping the family out. So in the end we thought, ‘We’ll just give it a go, but we will never let anything get in the way of our relationship,’ and it’s just always worked perfectly.”

Regarding public reactions to their age difference, Fleetwood acknowledged: “Oh, we definitely get comments. But it’s never been a thing to us. Clare actually looks very young for her age and I look old โ€” it’s probably all that sun. She’s incredibly cool and I’m not cool at all, though I am quite mature for my age.”

When discussing whether his wife fits the “WAG” (wives and girlfriends) stereotype often associated with sports figures’ partners, Fleetwood noted: “Ooh, I don’t think she’d like to be called a WAG much. Clare does much more than me, she’s a very, very busy woman. Both of us absolutely love working โ€” we’d far rather be busy than not busy.”

Fleetwood is scheduled to tee off at 10:10 a.m. ET alongside Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas for the upcoming tournament.

US Companies Face ‘Absolute Nightmare’ as Trump’s Trade Wall Hits!

President Donald Trump has implemented comprehensive tariff increases on imports since returning to office, beginning with Chinese goods and expanding to products from nearly all countries globally. Additional tariff increases are scheduled to begin on August 1st, following the conclusion of temporary pauses on some planned levies. Trump has communicated planned tariffs to various countries through official letters and established agreements with major trading partners, including the European Union and Japan. These "frameworks" contain unresolved issues while implementing previously unprecedented levy structures. High Court Decision Awaited on Wimbledon Tennis Site Expansion Challenge

A High Court judge is scheduled to deliver a ruling on Monday regarding a legal challenge to the approved expansion of the Wimbledon tennis venue. Save Wimbledon Park (SWP) campaigners brought the challenge against the Greater London Authority's (GLA) 2023 decision to approve the All England Club's development plans. The proposed expansion would nearly triple the tournament site's size by adding 38 tennis courts and constructing an 8,000-seat stadium on the former Wimbledon Park Golf Club grounds. Mr. Justice Saini will announce his decision at 2pm on Monday. The All England Club acquired the golf club property from members in 2021 with development intentions, subsequently submitting planning applications to both Merton and Wandsworth councils, as the park spans both boroughs.
