Telugu film actor Allu Arjun was arrested and subsequently released on interim bail Friday in connection with a fatal stampede that occurred at the premiere of his film “Pushpa 2” in Hyderabad on December 4th. The incident tragically resulted in the death of a 39-year-old woman and left her son critically injured.
Arjun was taken into custody by Hyderabad police and brought before a trial court, which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. However, hours later, the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail.
The stampede occurred at the Sandhya Theatre during the film’s premiere, where a large crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the popular actor. Police allege that the theatre management failed to implement adequate crowd control measures and did not provide a separate entry and exit for the film’s team, leading to a chaotic situation.
According to police, Arjun arrived at the theatre with his personal security, and the crowd surged forward in an attempt to enter with him. The ensuing pushing and shoving allegedly escalated into a stampede, resulting in the fatal crushing of M Revathi, a homemaker who had accompanied her son, a fan of the actor, to the premiere.
Police filed a case against the theatre management, Allu Arjun, and his security team, citing a lack of prior intimation about the team’s presence at the premiere. The case was registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder and voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt.
Arjun’s arrest sparked a flurry of legal activity, with his lawyers filing a petition in the Telangana High Court seeking to clear his name from the FIR and prevent his arrest until Monday. The High Court ultimately granted him interim bail, allowing him to avoid immediate detention.
This incident has raised concerns about crowd management and safety protocols at public events, particularly those involving high-profile celebrities. The investigation is ongoing, and police are expected to examine the roles of the theatre management, the actor’s security team, and the police themselves in the events that led to the tragic stampede.

She had simply woken to prepare tea for her ailing husband when tragedy struck. The shrapnel, Singh described, caused fatal head wounds. Ruby Kaur is now dead, and her daughter gravely injured. Adding to the vulnerability, Singh stated the absence of community bunkers in the area, forcing civilians to seek the fragile […]
