141 People Fall Ill During Royal Caribbean Cruise in Mysterious Gastrointestinal Outbreak

A gastrointestinal illness outbreak affected 141 individuals aboard a Royal Caribbean International cruise ship during a recent voyage. The Navigator of the Seas experienced the outbreak during a week-long round-trip cruise from Los Angeles to Mexico that concluded on July 11. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 134 passengers out of 3,914 guests reported illness, accompanied by seven crew members. The affected individuals experienced primary symptoms including vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. The CDC has classified the causative agent as unknown at this time. In response to the outbreak, Royal Caribbean implemented enhanced disinfection protocols and cleaning measures.
