Recent military operations between Russian and Ukrainian forces have resulted in significant civilian casualties, with at least 26 people killed and over 200 injured across Ukraine, according to official reports.
The casualties occurred during the same period that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky participated in a NATO summit in The Hague, Netherlands, where he discussed continued international support for Ukraine’s defense efforts.
The conflict, now in its third year, has seen sustained military actions targeting civilian infrastructure. United Nations data indicates that more than 12,000 Ukrainian civilians have died during the hostilities. Both sides have conducted long-range attacks, with Ukrainian forces also launching drone strikes that have reached residential areas in Russia.
At Tuesday’s NATO gathering, Zelensky focused on securing additional military assistance as Ukraine faces Russia’s numerically superior forces. Diplomatic efforts toward peace negotiations have not yielded significant progress toward a settlement.
Analysts note that remaining US military commitments from the previous Biden administration may conclude within months, creating uncertainty about future support levels under President Donald Trump’s leadership.
A ballistic missile strike on Dnipro, a central Ukrainian city, occurred around midday Tuesday, killing 15 people and injuring more than 200. Regional administration head Serhii Lysak reported that casualty numbers continued to be updated as rescue operations proceeded.
The nearby town of Samar experienced an attack that killed two people and injured 14, according to regional officials.
In his response, Zelensky highlighted Russia’s reliance on foreign components for ballistic missile production and called for international action to prevent Russian access to these materials through enhanced sanctions and enforcement measures.
Military actions also affected Ukraine’s southern Kherson region, where residential areas and infrastructure were targeted, resulting in four civilian deaths and at least 11 injuries, according to regional military administration head Oleksandr Prokudin.
In northeastern Ukraine’s Sumy region, a Monday evening drone attack killed three civilians, including a five-year-old boy, and injured six others. The injured included two 17-year-old girls and a 12-year-old boy, local authorities confirmed.
Russian defense forces reported intercepting 20 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 14 shot down over the Kursk region near the Ukrainian border and two over Moscow province, according to the Russian Defense Ministry’s Tuesday morning statement.
One drone impacted a residential tower in Moscow’s outskirts, causing a fire on the 17th floor. Moscow regional governor Andrei Vorobyov reported that a 34-year-old resident sustained shrapnel injuries to his arm and leg. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that two additional drones were intercepted while approaching Moscow.
As a precautionary measure, flight operations were temporarily suspended at two major Moscow airports, a representative from Russia’s aviation authority, Rosaviatsiya, confirmed.
