British professional boxer Georgia O’Connor died at age 25, her promoter Boxxer confirmed in an official statement.
“Georgia was a true warrior inside and outside the ring,” Boxxer stated. “Georgia was loved, respected, and admired by her friends here at Boxxer. Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time.”
Ben Shalom, founder and CEO of Boxxer, expressed condolences on social media: “My heart goes out to Georgia’s parents and partner, who I know did everything they could tirelessly and are going through so much right now.”
O’Connor had publicly shared her health struggles earlier this year through social media posts. In January, she disclosed her cancer diagnosis, stating she had experienced persistent pain for 17 weeks beginning in October. She reported visiting emergency departments in Durham and Newcastle repeatedly during this period.
The boxer indicated she had pre-existing medical conditions, including ulcerative colitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis, which she stated increased her cancer risk. In her social media post, O’Connor described feeling that medical professionals did not adequately address her concerns during the initial months of her symptoms.
“For 17 weeks since the start of October, I’ve been in constant pain, going back and forth between Durham and Newcastle RVI A&E knowing deep down something was seriously wrong,” O’Connor wrote on January 31. She expressed frustration with what she perceived as dismissive treatment from healthcare providers.
Despite her health challenges, O’Connor has maintained an undefeated professional boxing record since turning professional in 2021. Her amateur career included notable achievements: a gold medal at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, silver at the 2017 Youth World Championships, and bronze at the 2018 Youth World Championships.
Throughout her illness, O’Connor continued sharing personal updates on social media. In February, she revealed she had previously experienced a miscarriage. “The last few months have been a rollercoaster,” she wrote. “I’ve been pregnant with a beautiful baby, suffered a miscarriage, then got diagnosed with ‘incurable’ cancer. But I still feel on top of the world!”
Recently, O’Connor announced her marriage to longtime boyfriend Adriano Cardinali, sharing the news with followers: “09.05.2025. The day I married the love of my life.”
