Halton Regional Police are investigating a ticket scam that has left dozens of Taylor Swift fans in Ontario out tens of thousands of dollars. Victims purchased fake or non-existent tickets to Swift’s “Eras Tour” concerts in Toronto, with losses exceeding $70,000.
Police began receiving complaints about undelivered tickets on November 14th, coinciding with the first of Swift’s six sold-out shows at Rogers Centre. Investigators have identified at least 40 incidents involving the same vendor, with victims losing an average of over $1,700 each.
This scam appears to be connected to a larger scheme reported last week, in which approximately 400 people, primarily from Burlington, Ontario, lost a total of $300,000 in a similar ticket fraud operation. Halton police’s financial crimes unit is actively investigating both cases.
The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre has also received numerous reports of Swift ticket scams, with victims often being targeted through compromised social media accounts of people they know.
As Swift’s “Eras Tour” continues in Toronto and heads towards its final shows in Vancouver, fans are urged to exercise extreme caution when purchasing tickets from third-party sellers. Police recommend using reputable ticket vendors and verifying the authenticity of tickets before making any purchases.
