Conor McGregor Named in Civil Lawsuit Alleging Sexual Assault at NBA Finals

Conor McGregor, the mixed martial arts fighter and former UFC champion, is facing a civil lawsuit alleging sexual assault at the Kaseya Center (formerly FTX Arena and American Airlines Arena) in Miami during the NBA Finals on June 9, 2023. The plaintiff alleges that McGregor assaulted her in a bathroom at the venue and is seeking unspecified damages from both McGregor and the Miami Heat Limited Partnership, the arena’s ownership group.

McGregor has denied the allegations through a spokesperson, dismissing them as a “shakedown.” While the Miami Police Department initiated an investigation following a report filed on June 11, 2023, the Florida State Attorneyโ€™s Office declined to file criminal charges in October 2023. This declination does not preclude the pursuit of a civil suit, which has a different standard of proof than criminal proceedings.

The lawsuit also details a separate incident that occurred earlier that evening involving McGregor and the Miami Heat mascot, Burnie. During a halftime promotional skit for a pain relief spray, McGregor allegedly struck the mascot, resulting in the performerโ€™s hospitalization. This incident garnered significant media attention at the time.

The civil lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida on January 15, 2025. Civil lawsuits allow plaintiffs to seek financial compensation for alleged harm, even if criminal charges are not pursued. The outcome of the civil case will depend on the evidence presented and the legal arguments made by both sides.

Kerr, now 56, earned his intimidating nickname "The Smashing Machine" through his devastating fighting style during MMA's formative years, when fighters often competed multiple times in a single night. The Ohio native's remarkable career included four first-round stoppage wins at UFC 14 and UFC 15 in 1997, with his longest bout lasting just 133 seconds. Diddy Jury Splits On Sex Trafficking But Convicts On Prostitution Charges

A federal jury delivered a split verdict in the trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs, finding him guilty of transporting individuals for prostitution while acquitting him on more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges. After more than seven weeks of testimony about drug-fueled celebrity parties, the jury ruled that prosecutors failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Combs used "force, fraud, or coercion" to compel former girlfriends into commercial sex acts during events known as "freak-offs." The case centered on testimony from two women: singer Casandra "Cassie" Ventura Fine and a woman identified as "Jane," both former girlfriends of Combs. Prosecutors argued Combs used financial influence, violence and blackmail threats to coerce the women into performing sex acts at his parties. Key evidence included March 2016 surveillance video showing Combs beating Ventura in a hotel hallway and dragging her away. Ventura […]
