A US technology company has placed its CEO on administrative leave following widespread attention surrounding a viral video from a Coldplay concert that allegedly shows two company executives in an intimate moment.
The incident occurred at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, where concert cameras captured two individuals embracing during the performance. When their faces appeared on the venue’s large screen visible to thousands of attendees, both people immediately ducked and attempted to hide from view.
The moment gained significant traction after Coldplay frontman Chris Martin noticed their reaction and commented to the audience: “Either they’re having an affair, or they’re just very shy.” This remark fueled speculation about the nature of their relationship and the circumstances surrounding their behavior.
The initial TikTok video documenting the incident garnered millions of views and quickly spread across multiple social media platforms. The content was subsequently transformed into memes and became a topic of discussion on various television programs, amplifying its reach and public interest.
Two days after the video’s widespread circulation, Astronomer issued a formal statement acknowledging the situation without directly referencing the concert footage. The company emphasized its commitment to organizational values and stated that leadership is expected to maintain appropriate standards of conduct and accountability.
“The Board of Directors has initiated a formal investigation into this matter and we will have additional details to share very shortly,” the company announced. Co-founder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy has been appointed as interim CEO during this period.
Multiple reports have identified the male individual in the video as Andy Byron, who has served as Astronomer’s CEO since July 2023. The female individual has been identified in online discussions as Kristin Cabot, the company’s chief people officer, who joined Astronomer in November 2024. Neither Byron nor Cabot have publicly confirmed their participation in the video, and the BBC has been unable to independently verify these identities.
Astronomer clarified in their statement that Byron has not issued any personal statement regarding the matter, contradicting several fake statements attributed to him that circulated online Thursday. The company also confirmed that no additional employees were involved in the incident.
The situation highlights the intersection of personal conduct, corporate governance, and social media’s ability to transform private moments into public scrutiny, particularly when involving company leadership figures.
