Manchester United Submit Third £70m Bid for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo

Article arrow_drop_down

Manchester United have submitted their third offer for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, with the package potentially reaching £70 million. The proposal consists of an initial £65 million fee plus £5 million in performance-related add-ons.

Brentford have not yet provided a response to Manchester United’s latest approach for the 25-year-old Cameroon international.

United officials remain optimistic about securing Mbeumo’s signature and were hoping to complete the transfer before their departure to the United States on Tuesday. The club has scheduled three pre-season fixtures during their 13-day American tour, with Chicago serving as their primary training base.

While recent reports have connected United with Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, sources indicate that finalizing the Mbeumo acquisition has been the club’s main transfer priority. This would allow manager Ruben Amorim to integrate the forward into his tactical setup during the US training camp.

Mbeumo attracted attention from multiple clubs following his impressive 20-goal Premier League campaign last season. Tottenham, now under the management of former Brentford manager Thomas Frank, were among the interested parties. However, Mbeumo reportedly favors a move to Old Trafford.

The potential departure of Mbeumo would leave Brentford without one of their primary attacking threats. Their other key goalscorer, striker Yoane Wissa, has drawn interest from Newcastle United.

Manager Amorim has consistently highlighted United’s struggles with clinical finishing throughout the previous season. The team’s 44 Premier League goals represented their lowest domestic league total since the 1973-74 relegation campaign.

United have already completed two signings this summer, bringing in forward Matheus Cunha and defender Diego Leon.

Should the Mbeumo transfer materialize, it would likely result in tactical adjustments. Captain Bruno Fernandes may be deployed in a deeper midfield position, as Cunha is expected to occupy one of the two inside forward roles behind the main striker in Amorim’s preferred system.

The potential arrival would further diminish the prospects of four currently excluded forwards: Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Antony. These players remain in first-team exile and face reduced opportunities for reintegration.

Manchester United begin their Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Arsenal on August 17.

Additional tariff increases are scheduled to begin on August 1st, following the conclusion of temporary pauses on some planned levies. Trump has communicated planned tariffs to various countries through official letters and established agreements with major trading partners, including the European Union and Japan. These "frameworks" contain unresolved issues while implementing previously unprecedented levy structures. Save Wimbledon Park (SWP) campaigners brought the challenge against the Greater London Authority's (GLA) 2023 decision to approve the All England Club's development plans.
