Ali Majrashi’s journey with Al Ahli has been an emotional rollercoaster since joining the Jeddah club in January 2022. Just months after his arrival, he experienced the painful relegation of the 88-year-old Saudi club for the first time in their history during a match against his former team, Al Shabab.
The defender then celebrated Al Ahli’s immediate promotion back to the Roshn Saudi League, returning just in time for the league’s transformation. Most recently, Majrashi was overcome with emotion as he played a crucial role in Al Ahli securing their first continental trophy.
Matthias Jaissle’s team triumphed in the AFC Champions League Elite on home soil, defeating Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale in a convincing final performance. Few players remain at Al Ahli who have experienced this entire journey alongside Majrashi, which explains the raw emotion visible on his face as cameras at Alinma Stadium captured him in tears.
Whether those tears represented joy, relief, ecstasy, or redemptionโlikely a combination of all these feelingsโthey marked the pinnacle of his three-year journey with the club. Majrashi wasn’t merely a spectator in this success but one of Al Ahli’s standout performers throughout the finals tournament in Jeddah.
His dynamic performances at right-back blended attacking energy with defensive commitment, qualities that have endeared him to Al Ahli supporters. In the semifinal against RSL rivals Al Hilal, Majrashi led all players with five tackles and 14 duels won. He continued this form in the final, recording seven tackles and eight duels won, second only to teammate Roger Ibanez.
Among Al Ahli’s constellation of stars, including Ibanez, Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, and Galeno, Majrashi’s contributions could easily be overlooked despite their significance. His effectiveness, ranking second in the 2024-25 RSL with 93 tackles, earned him a call-up to Hervรฉ Renard’s Saudi Arabia squad for March’s internationals.
Majrashi impressed after coming on at halftime in a crucial World Cup qualifier against Japan at Saitama Stadium, helping secure a valuable point. His continued strong performances, particularly in the Champions League Elite, likely guarantee him a role in Saudi Arabia’s final two 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Bahrain and Australia next month.
Before those international duties, Majrashi remains focused on domestic competition as Al Ahli pursue a second consecutive top-three RSL finish. After winning just three of their first nine matches, their chances appeared slim, but with three games remaining, only two points separate third-placed Al Nassr from fifth-placed Al Ahli, with Al Qadsiah between them.
Despite a recent 3-1 setback against Al Shabab, the continental champions will look to rebound against Al Kholood on Saturday. Regardless of their final league position, the season already represents a remarkable achievement for the club and for Majrashi, who aims to continue his upward trajectory after experiencing so much in just three years at Al Ahli.
